The City Of Loomis California
Overview
Despite Loomis being an old town in California, it has maintained its serenity and scenic country view. The old fashion town has custom built residential houses scattered across the hillside. It also boasts of natural streams and woodlands that give it a unique feel of a pertinent family setting away from the uptown buzz. The town is located in Placer County and has a population of approximately 7000 people according to the US Census in 2015.
History
The town of Loomis formerly known as Smithville was established in 1850. Later on, in 1861 a post office was set up and attracted a railroad that passed through the town leading to a change in the town’s name again to Pino. It was later renamed Loomis in 1890 after the name Pino created confusion with a nearby town called Reno.
Loomis was named after James Loomis, a pioneer in that town who once served as the town’s postmaster, express agent, saloon keeper and the railroad agent. The town was later incorporated into Placer County on December 17, 1984, after the locals saw the danger of getting attached to their neighbor Rocklin. They opted for incorporation so as to assume control of their town and preserve historic structures and fruit packing sheds that sat between the growing Union Pacific Railroad and Taylor road adjacent to it.
