Data Recovery
Sometimes it is already too late for a backup. The computer has failed, the drive can no longer be accessed, or important files have disappeared—and the only remaining copy of valuable information may be on the device that is no longer working.
At that point, the priority changes. Instead of concentrating on repairing the computer, PCS first considers how to protect the information that may still be recoverable. Your content can be more valuable than the computer itself, and unnecessary attempts to start, repair, initialize, format, or repeatedly access a failing storage device can make an already difficult recovery more complicated.
Data can become inaccessible for many reasons:
• Failed or deteriorating hard drives and SSDs
• Corrupted file systems or partitions
• Computers that no longer start properly
• Accidentally deleted files or folders
• Damaged Windows installations
• External drives and other storage devices that cannot be accessed
• Storage devices exhibiting signs of physical failure
• Data that exists nowhere else
PCS begins by evaluating the circumstances surrounding the loss. Not every inaccessible drive has suffered the same type of failure. Some problems are logical and may allow data to be recovered without physically repairing the storage device. Other failures involve the electronics, mechanics, or internal components of the drive and require an entirely different level of recovery.
The objective is not to experiment with irreplaceable information. PCS determines what can reasonably and safely be attempted locally and, just as importantly, recognizes when the safest recommendation is to stop.
When Specialized Recovery Is Required
Some failures go beyond what should be attempted in a computer service center. A mechanically damaged hard drive or other serious storage failure may require specialized equipment, controlled laboratory conditions, replacement components, and professional recovery techniques. Continuing to operate or repeatedly experiment with a physically failing drive can reduce the possibility of successful recovery.
PCS is an authorized DriveSavers partner. When specialized recovery is appropriate, we provide our PCS authorization number to the customer. The customer then works directly with DriveSavers for the evaluation, recovery options, pricing, authorization, and professional recovery process.
This arrangement keeps the relationship between the customer and the specialized recovery laboratory direct. PCS remains available to help the customer understand the situation and, after recovered information is returned, can assist with putting that information back into a usable computer environment.
Recovery Is Only Half the Solution
Recovering important information solves the immediate problem, but it also provides an opportunity to prevent the same emergency from happening again. Once the data is safe, PCS can help establish an appropriate backup strategy so the failure of a single computer, hard drive, or SSD does not again become a threat to the only copy of important information.
That may include complete system images, network storage, multiple recovery points, off-site or cloud protection, and managed backup monitoring depending upon the importance of the information and the customer’s requirements.
PCS provides data recovery evaluation and assistance for homes and businesses throughout Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Granite Bay, and surrounding communities. When important data becomes inaccessible, the first objective isn’t to make the computer work again—it is to avoid doing anything that unnecessarily puts the remaining data at greater risk.
